The Winifred Awosika Scrabble Tournament
For Schools (WASTFS) is a pet project of
the Winifred Awosika Foundation (WAF).The scrabble tournament is competition
that brings pupils from public and private schools together . The third edition
of competition was held on the 13th and 14th of June 2014
at Victor Awosika Hall, Chrisland School Opebi. Pupils from different public schools and private
schools in Lagos State were all in attendance, corporate sponsors, dignitaries
from the Lagos State Scrabble Federation, respresentives of the Honourable Commissioner Education,
Lagos State Ministry of Education, friends and partners of the Foundation were
not left out, they were all present to encourage pupils and support the
Foundation with their presence.
The Founder of the Tournament High Chief Mrs Dr Winifred Awosika thanked
the almighty God for the foundation and
opportunity to host another successful tournament, she thanked the Pupils for
their participation, friends and partners of the foundation for always been
there.
‘’She
further stated that the aims of the
tournament was to encourage out of the box education, to make the child think,
use his/her immense ability to work, and bring out the best in creativity, in
academics, and in every area of their endevours.
She emphasized
that the Winifred Awosika Foundation is trying to promote the unity of the
country through the organization of the scrabble tournament among schools both
public and private schools, by bringing different children together
irrespective of their background or educational opportunities to interact in a
very friendly way, and bring out their oneness ,instead of the energy
emphasized to tear the nation apart’’.
She later declared the tournament opened.
The next day was the grand finale of the tournament which saw more guests/parents in attendance, under
a stiff competition among the pupils. After
several hours of competing, Chibudum Ihejirike of Chrisland School Opebi emerged
the winner of the 2014 Winifred Awosika
Scrabble Tournament.
